Equipment Operator / Laborer

The Town of Waterbury is seeking to hire an Equipment Operator/Laborer. The position plays a vital role in maintaining our paved and gravel road network, along with our town parks and cemeteries.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma (or equivalent) with 2-years of experience as a truck driver and/or heavy equipment operator, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the skills necessary to succeed. Preferred applicants will have a Class B Commercial Driver’s License; all applicants will be required to obtain a Class B Commercial license. Experience in road maintenance is desirable.
The Town offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision and dental insurance, retirement benefits, generous leave time, and more. The starting pay ranges from $25 to $28 per hour depending on qualifications.

Natural Disaster Response Coordinator

The Town of Waterbury is seeking to hire a Natural Disaster Response Coordinator.  The primary role of the Natural Disaster Response Coordinator is to recruit, oversee, and manage the activities of volunteers who serve ready to serve Waterbury in the event of a flood that inundates homes and businesses.  The position oversees the volunteer response in assisting property owners with immediate flood recovery needs, including pumping out homes, removing debris and trash, providing cleaning supplies to impacted residents, and assisting in a myriad of ways to makes homes and neighborhoods livable.

This is a volunteer position for which an annual stipend is paid.  In the event of a flood additional compensation will be provided for the acute work that is required.  The position is expected to lead regular meetings of flood volunteers to ensure the community is prepared for a future flood.  The position reports to the Municipal Manager.

Afterschool Program Assistant (multiple positions)

Job Title: Afterschool Program Assistant (multiple positions)               Department: Recreation
Status: Hourly, Seasonal
Wages: Starting at $16/hr and increases with experience

Job Summary:
The Afterschool Program Assistants will engage with children during free choice time, and help lead planned activities, with the option to help with program development and activity leading. Afterschool staff are expected to provide a safe, well-supervised space for kids to explore and unwind, while also maintaining a good rapport with parents and the community. We are seeking qualified, engaged, and motivated individuals with experience in youth and children's programs. Candidates should be ready to commit to at least 2 afternoons per week (school days), and will ideally be available to work for the entirety of the program hours from 2:45-6pm.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Afterschool Assistants will:

  • Participate in the planned activity each day, or supervise children who are not participating
  • Lead or help instruct planned activities
  • Join mini field trips around town, maintaining safety of the group
  • Build positive rapport with students, including but not limited to engaging in student-led activities, and being able to adapt quickly due to weather and unforeseen schedule changes, etc.
  • Positive attitude and communication with parents/guardians, staff, and students
  • Help clean and maintain organization of the program space and materials each day

Required Skills/Abilities:
The Afterschool Assistants will need to have:

  • Experience working with youth in various settings
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Desire to stay organized, be patient and practice problem solving
  • The ability to work in a team
  • The ability to serve, communicate with, and work with a diverse population

Education and Experience:
The Afterschool Assistants must be or have:

  • At least 14 years of age to apply
  • Enjoys being in the company of children
  • Loves the outdoors
  • CPR/First Aid Certification* (preferred)
  • Mandated Reporter training* (preferred)

*These certifications shall be part of training should they not currently be held.
