Education Series for Homeowners

Building Better Waterbury is a 4-workshop series developed by the Housing Task Force to educate and empower individual property owners to increase housing capacity through the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and duplexes.


Workshop #1: Zoning and Permitting Demystified

Featuring Zoning Administrator Mike Bishop, Planning Director Neal Leitner, & State Asst. Fire Marshal Shawn Goodell

This workshop focused on the key regulatory and statutory changes that now allow for small-scale housing and increased density, particularly in downtown-designated areas. Mike Bishop and Neal Leitner covered the more user-friendly permitting applications and steps to approval, while Shawn Goodell, from the VT Division of Fire Safety spoke to the specific circumstances in which a fire safety inspection is required for new rentals.
